A Veggie Roast with Gravy
It might seem a bit strange to have a vegetarian roast, but these days there are many skilled people managing to make vegetarian or vegan products that closely resemble the meat specialties many of us are so fond of, and they really are convincingly good at it! And if we can get the fantastic tastes and textures we're so fond of without sacrificing an animal, why would we do otherwise, right? If you don't believe me, give them a try yourself!
In Australia, I can highly recommend the Sanitarium Veggie Roast. This one is also vegan and comes with a tasty mint and rosemary glaze. In the UK and probably America, you can get Quorn Roasts, which I am yet to try, but knowing quorn they will no doubt be a dead ringer for chicken or turkey. In the Netherlands the roasts are yet to catch on, but you can get some very nice meaty products in the Vegetarisch Slager products, and the Seitan steaks at the natuurwinkel are also a great roast alternative. See the Tips and Links section for shopping tips.
Alternatively the internet is filled with great nut roast recipes, which also make a fab alternative to a roast and are tasty with gravy.

Cooking tips
I won't go into details on how to cook the roast as it's dependent on which one you get, and you will find instructions on the package. Sanitarium also has some nice tips for alternative glazes, which could probably be equally used on the Quorn roast:
Mediteranean Herb Rub
Honey & Saffron Glaze
For Gravy I like to use the vegetarian gravy powder (biologisch juspoeder in Dutch), which if you can't find it at your supermarket, you can probably source at an organic or health shop.
I find the recommended dose quite concentrated, so I usually use half to 2/3 of what is recommended, and combine with a generous splash of yummy red wine. You can then add other ingredients you like, like ground pepper, mushrooms, sage, thyme or rosemary. Experiment a bit and taste it as it's boiling on the stove so you know the balance is right. Adjust the amounts of any of the ingredients as you see fit.
And Enjoy!!
