Who am I?
Hi! Thanks for visiting Vegetarian for Meatlovers! My name is Cathy Hancock. I am an Australian food lover, who has a pretty mixed, international background, and has found a happy home in the Netherlands.
I have been a vegetarian for 8.5 years and differ from many vegetarians in that I used to love meat, and found it hard to imagine living without it. But having studied sustainable development and environmental management, I could not deny that eating meat, certainly in the large quantities that many people do, is simply not sustainable. Luckily I love to cook and experiment and have discovered and created a plentitude of delicious recipes, and haven't had to give up many of my favourite dishes. I honestly do not miss it!
I am also prone to anaemia (iron deficiency), having had issues even as a meat eater, and with a little vigilence and the help of protein/ iron rich meat replacements and beans/legumes I have managed to keep my vitamin and mineral levels at healthy and stable levels. I am pleased to say that the range, quality and taste of the replacements has grown enormously in recent years, and in some cases you will struggle to taste the difference.
Over the years I have had many meatlovers leave my dinner table satisfied and impressed that vegetarian food could be so tasty and satisfying. So I decided to create this site, and call it Vegetarian for Meatlovers, so you'll all see in trying out these recipes that it is possible to be a meatlover and still enjoy delicious and simple vegetarian food.
I am always open for feedback and have a blog for General Feedback, Recipe Feedback and Tips from Visitors, so please share your two cents! You can also contact me on [email protected]. I am also thinking of branching into vegetarian cooking workshops, so please let me know if this would be of interest to you! :-)
